Get your BP oil coated oysters here...

In case you've been in a coma for a while, British Petroleum is in the process of coating most of the Gulf Coast with oil and tar balls and ruining the fishing industry there.  And to BP's credit, their level of corporate leadership (or lack thereof) has made some of the more recent blunders by Red Lobsters senior leaders look insignificant.  And that's saying something.  See Edna's All-You-Can-Eatgate for exhibit A.

I predicted this would happen about 2 weeks ago - Red Lobster is taking oysters off the menu.

Why you ask?  Because most of our oysters (and in fact depending on the time of year and your region ALL of your oysters) come from LA - Louisiana.

So if you are hankering to slurp a few down, better do it in the next 48 hours, otherwise my guess is you will be shit out of luck.

BTW Red Lobster, I'd love to have a lightly grilled oyster skewer as an option.  You just kiss the oysters on the grill over a wood fire and they absorb an amazing amount of smoke flavor, plus the caramelization where the oyster hits the grill is oh-so-good.  But don't cook them for long as they turn to rubber and shrink up and dry out very quickly.

Then kiss them with some lime (yes lime, not lemon) and they are amazing!  Maybe a shot of hot sauce too.

It wasn't particularly wise to be eating gulf oysters to begin with. Warm water oysters are always sketchy if not irradiated, but who wants to eat nuked oysters? Oyster lovers should just take the leap to a northern oyster from either coast. After a few, you won't ever go back.
